Green goes with everything: Simple Steps to a Healthier Life and a Cleaner Planet
By Sloan Barnett

Imagine if your best friend gave you vital information that could protect you and your family, and save you money, and help the planet. Imagine if you were given clear, simple choices, small changes that could have a big impact on your life. And you could still wear leather shoes and deodorant. You'd listen, right?
Well, think of Today show contributor Sloan Barnett as that friend. A mother of three, a dedicated consumer advocate, Sloan gives us a fast, simple, down-to-earth primer on the ways our homes are making us sick, and what we can all do to transform them into the safe sanctuaries we want and need them to be. Sloan exposes the toxic truth behind the household products we use every day -- from laundry detergent to toothpaste to lipstick. She explains how these and other seemingly benign stuff can harm us and our children. She offers an array of alternatives, and inspires us to see that we're never helpless: Every day, we have the power to make better, smarter, safer choices.
Packed with common sense and sass, product picks and practical tips, Green Goes With Everything is for everyone who wants to live a healthier life.

The White House “Gets Clean” with Shaklee
As concerns rise about the environment and new information comes out on health and wellness issues, more and more people are turning to alternative ways of living, or “going green.” “Going green” not only helps reduce environmental waste and pollution, it also raises awareness of what we are putting into our bodies and what surrounds our bodies. Recent studies have found that everyday household products can be more harmful than keeping a loaded gun in the home, and can cause problems from asthma to cancer.
If everyday people are safeguarding their homes against toxic cleaners, then Why not safeguard the most guarded family in the United States? The presidential homes have done just that. In an interview with Barbara Walters prior to his inauguration, President Barack Obama vowed to “green” the White House, including evaluating the mansion’s energy efficiency and turning the lawn into an organic garden. In addition, to protect his oldest daughter Malia from asthma attacks, the President said he would select a natural,
toxin-free line of cleaning products for The White House staff to use. Shaklee CEO Roger Barnett recently announced that The White House and the Vice President’s residence (known as The Admiral’s House) are now using the Shaklee Get Clean product line.
It is great news that the First and Second Families can now enjoy the benefits of a healthy, safe, and environmentally friendly home. The President and Vice President aren’t the only VIPs to enjoy a Shaklee “Get Clean” home. In 2007, Oprah listed the Get Clean starter kit as one of her favorite products. She has featured the products on many of her “green” episodes, including a recent “Going Green” show. Oprah says she's a big fan of Shaklee's H2 Organic Super Concentrated Cleaner. "Use a couple of drops of this, and it's amazing," she says. "You can clean the windows. You can clean the counters. … You can clean everything!" Shaklee CEO Roger Barnett was first introduced to Shaklee when his son developed asthma. When the family discovered that Barnett’s son had respiratory issues,
Sloan, began investigating what can trigger her son’s condition. Sloan was horrified to find that many household cleaning products, such as bathroom cleaners, disinfectants, floor cleaners and oven cleaners, contain toxic chemicals that can trigger an asthma attack. After throwing out all of their household cleaners, the Barnetts discovered the Shaklee Corporation, a company that had been producing natural cleaning products for 50 years. "We thought they worked terrifically," Roger says. "The great news is that Spencer has never had to go back to the hospital since we switched our products and that really speaks it all for us." Roger loved the products so much that he bought the company! At the 2007 Primetime Emmy Awards, Shaklee® Get Clean was featured at the first Main Event Red Carpet Lounge & Green Suite. Over one hundred A-list celebrities stopped by the Shaklee booth to check out the Get Clean products. Many of the celebrities had a lot of praise for Shaklee!

Shaklee Handwash Concentrate
Every year when cold or flu season rolls around, health care officials tell us the exact same thing: be sure to wash your hands often. Proper hand washing means a full lather with scrubbing for about twenty seconds, or as long as it takes you to sing the "Happy Birthday" song twice. You should always wash your hands before preparing or eating food, after handling garbage, going to the bathroom, being around somebody is sick, handling an animal, changing a diaper, blowing your nose, and so on.Ready to swear allegiance to hand washing? Be sure you wash your hands with Shaklee's Hand Wash Concentrate. This is more than a trip to the sink to clean your hands, this is a spa visit! Hand Wash Concentrate contains aloe, marshmallow, wheat germ oil, algae extracts, linden flower, rosemary and arnica to condition, moisturize, sooth and energize your hands. Your skin will feel soft and smooth, and you'll be mentally refreshed from the lovely scent.
As with all Shaklee products, the environmental benefits are obvious. When you order concentrated products, you are committed to less packaging waste and less fuel to ship the product. Refilling your Shaklee soap dispenser will be an occasional reminder of just how great it is to be involved with a company who has both your and the world's best interests in mind when they design their products.

Domestic Detox: Cleaning to Extremes

An interesting article published on The New York Times this past Thursday May 27 2010, mentioned the potential health hazards like mold, indoor air pollution, household chemicals and electromagnetic radiation. The article mentioned something really new to some people such as a whole home detox and something came back to my mind, something like “Get Clean from Shaklee has been talking about it for the past few years now” Our products are created by nature, harness by science and proven by millions.
For the past 50 years, Shaklee products have been providing non-toxic cleaning products safe for you, your home and the planet. Based on this, I can say that it’s not a surprise to see articles like this one because we’ve been listening from our scientist, Shaklee articles, our members and our distributors that our products are environmentally safe-cleaning products, people call us and tell us that our products are not only powerful but also gentle on the environment.Every time I have a Shaklee presentation people keep tell me “Are those the products featured on Oprah last year?” and I put my nicest smile and proudly reply “Yes they are” because people are getting more environmentally cautious and “going green” is today’s fashion. The article also mentions and I quote: “Municipal water supplies like New York’s are typically treated with chlorine and fluoride, which are possible carcinogens and show trace amounts of arsenic and other metals” It doesn’t surprise me either. Shaklee thought about it too, to sell products that improve our health by the vitamins we take, the water we drink and the air we breathe.

They studied 3,500 adults and found that those who used household cleaning sprays, air fresheners, furniture cleaners and glass cleaners, had a 30-50% higher risk of asthma than those who seldom or never used spray cleaners.
The incidence of doctor-diagnosed asthma was highest in those who used the cleaning sprays at least four times a week. The cause of the increased asthma risk is not known, but the scientists who conducted the study hypothesized that it was some irritant in the propellants used in the sprays because the cleaners themselves only increased the risk of asthma by 10-15%The scary part is that the incidence of asthma in children has increased dramatically over the past 15 to 20 years. The scientific community has been at loss to explain the causes behind this increase.
Children are usually much more sensitive to household cleaning products than adults.Household cleaning sprays are convenient and inexpensive. Most people are completely unaware of the negative effects that they can have on bopth the environment and on their health, so household cleaning sprays have become almost ubiquitous in American households.Use safe, healthy products for your family, Shaklee Get Clean products are the perfect option. Shaklee company is real “Green” with no hidden agenda here, just good things for you and the planet.
